Rate drinks consistently

A five-point score becomes useful only when the same number means roughly the same thing every time. The goal is not to imitate critics or price tags; it is to make your own My Sips history easier to compare later.

A practical personal scale

ScoreMeaningUseful interpretation
1Not for meYou would avoid choosing it again, even if you understand why someone else may enjoy it.
2Below my usual choiceInteresting or drinkable, but there are clearly better options for your taste.
3GoodYou enjoyed it and would not mind having it again.
4Very goodA strong match for your taste and something you would happily choose again.
5Favourite-levelOne of the best examples you have personally tried, worth actively seeking again.

Keep Rating and Favourite separate

A score and a Favourite flag answer different questions. Rating asks, “How much did I enjoy this?” Favourite asks, “Would I actively seek this again?” A 4-star drink can be excellent without becoming one of your permanent favourites.

Compare like with like first

A stout, sparkling wine, Espresso Martini and alcohol-free botanical highball solve different occasions. When possible, compare a drink with other examples of its style first. Over time, your 1–5 numbers can still be compared across categories because the scale records personal enjoyment.

Do not let price decide the score

Price, packaging, venue prestige and brand reputation can influence expectations. Try to score the drink itself. If a lower-priced product gives you more enjoyment than a premium one, your personal history should be allowed to show that.

Rate the experience you actually had

Serving temperature, freshness, glassware and preparation can affect what you taste. If a mixed drink was clearly made incorrectly or a packaged product was out of condition, it can be more useful to avoid locking in a permanent rating until you have a fair example.

Use the same method for alcohol-free drinks

The scale should work exactly the same way for alcohol-free beer, mocktails, coffee-based social drinks and other zero-alcohol options. SipLeague discovery and social play do not require alcohol.

Structured, personal and private

Your 1–5 Rating is personal My Sips state. It is not a free-form public review and should not be interpreted as a crowd score.

A repeatable routine

  1. Identify the exact curated drink or packaged barcode you tried.
  2. Save it if it belongs in your history.
  3. Choose 1–5 using the same scale above.
  4. Use Favourite only when you would actively seek it again.
  5. Revisit the score later if your taste changes.
